Is this reality or are we watching a terrible black comedy?

This past week has been awful. We now have an historical landfill of garbage spewed by our government - and most of us just sit passively by as the U.S. Constitution is destroyed. Does *** Cheney really think people will sit idle while he attempts to explain he is above the U.S. laws? Will Congress sit idle?

I have come to the following conclusions.

*** Cheney is a dangerous man. His ideological construct that the Vice Presidency is part of two branches of the government and so he should not have to follow the rules of either is neither logical nor sound. However, this type of Nixon rhetoric has people actually contemplating that maybe he is right.

What on earth are people thinking?

The government was designed for checks and balances. One person is not above the checks and balances. There should be no secrets in the U.S. government. Having secrets leads to bad conclusions and a bad society.

Where is the uproar?

No one seems to be bothered that the U.S. Constitution is being trashed. Is the attention span of the American citizen so poorly (mis)directed that they cannot focus on the Constitution? Have we really developed into a society of ignorant fools?

Is this new construct of government leaders who are above everyone else going to continue? Will we elect more thieves who steal billions, take us to wars, and tell us lies?

Sigh.

Here is an interesting scenario - and a better future for Americans. Congress needs to remove *** Cheney from office. This offense is impeachable. Next, after Cheney is gone, impeach Bush so that the new V.P. becomes the President of the U.S. Either that, or scrap the whole government. Tell everyone in Washington that we will no longer pay taxes and they can all go home. We'll find other people who are actually willing to serve the people rather than cook us, roast us, serve our work to other nations, and tell us to enjoy the meal.

The time is ripe for a change in government and not through voting but through impeachment. Tell your representatives. Start now before the comedy becomes a national nightmare.

Oops. Too late.

Ron Paul invokes Woodrow Wilson: Do people understand?

Ron Paul maintains his independence from the rhetoric of the Republican party. However, do people listen to the message or ignore it because they do not understand?

Wilson believed "the people in every country should have the right to choose their own governments." He abandoned the imperialist policy of the three previous presidents.

Balloons As Visual Aides: Will they listen?

Leave it to Americans to solve problems and creativity takes over. For example, using balloons as a means to get government representatives attention was posted by one of many frustrated readers when discussing one of the many scandals hitting the Bush administration.

on a certain day and time - buy hundreds of millions of colorful balloons that say “Impeach Bush”, “Impeach Cheney”, “Impeach Gonzales”, “End the War”, “Investigate”, you name it.. All the balloons could be let off into the sky at the same time. We could fill the skies of America with the same message. People in Congress aren’t listening, the President isn’t listening, maybe they need something more visual..

Maybe our government representatives are not visual learners. They certainly are not auditory.

Congress Approval lowest in a decade

Noam N. Levey from the LA Times writes about the new low Congress has hit. According to the article, only a quarter of Americans polled think Congress is doing a good job. Most of the poll responses see "business as usual."

Public disappointment with Congress swelled before Republicans lost power in November. Democrats swept in on promises to end the war and tackle a host of popular domestic issues, including raising the minimum wage, reducing prices on prescription drugs, promoting stem cell research and ending corruption.

AJ Strata wonders if "it is possible that both the Dems and Reps are now below Bush’s numbers."

There is no surprise in this poll. Congress did not dramatically change when the Democrats assumed control of the House and the Senate. The root cause of disappointment resides in the leaders rhetoric promising fundamental changes and not following through with the promises.

Nothing shows this lack of fundamental shift in this statement:

Representatives of Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Democrats were undeterred by the public's anger.

Good for them! Why not? After all, who cares that they are elected officials responsible for representing citizens of their districts. Yep. So, why should they be bothered that they are doing a lousy job. They get paid any way, right? They'll probably get re-elected, too.

No More Mister Nice Guy says it even better: "we actually want results."

Personally, I'm tired of this type of Washington DC arrogance. Meanwhile, George W. Bush continues to drive the discussions and no leader in the House or Senate is willing to stand up and stick to their word. People zero - DC $1-billion dollars richer.

Forum Addition

The idea behind this site was to shake up the discussions about politics; the site was originally forums, with a little activity and eventually the site was migrated to a blog with forums. However, life pulled me away from writing on this blog.

After looking around the other day, the domain name Insane Politics struck me as a great domain. The domain was registered and the site built using vbulletin.

As time presents, this blog and the new forums will be tied together.

Lou Dobbs Points Out May 15 Speech By Bush Not Being Followed

There is no denying that Lou Dobbs holds government servants accountable. President Bush looked into the Camera on May 15 and said he was ordering 6,000 troops to the border. We were assured they would reach the border by August 1, 2006. Oh well. They didn't reach the border and now we are being told the National Guard will not have their toes on the border.

And while we are being real, do you remember how we were told the Iraq war would cost less than 65 billion. Now that we have spent 315 billion dollars on this silly war, military is wanting more money. Yes, your tax dollars, and your children's tax dollars are paying for ... hmm ... what are you paying for?

Drilling in the Gulf of Mexico

Regardless of the public spin, the Senate voted to open the Gulf of Mexico to more drilling. One excuse reason provided includes gasoline prices. This type of nonsense really burns. It's time to just vote out all the incumbents and be done with the crap.

The bill, approved 71 to 25, now must be reconciled with a broader and more controversial House measure that would relax the decades-long ban on drilling in most coastal waters, including along the Pacific Coast.

Pension Plans
Congress is attempting to churn out legislation in the last moments before a summer break. The hope is to hit the campaign trail with tidbits of promises about a better economy, protected pensions, and other personal money issues. Democrats are hoping to recapture the Congress - but there is no unified strategy. This free for all should make for an interesting campaign season. Will we see the continuation of "fear" strategies from Republicans? Will we see the "Blame Them" strategies from Democrats?

The Minimum Wage Debate

Associated Press published Republicans Tie Minimum Wage to Tax Cut.

Congress would pass an increase in the minimum wage before leaving Washington for vacation, but only as part of a package rolling back taxes on the heirs of multimillionaires, a Senate leadership aide said Friday.

These politicians don’t even bother hiding their desires to cut taxes for the wealthy. Why not cut taxes for everyone? We can start by cutting the politicians’ salaries and remove them from the budget. We can send them all home for a nice long lifetime holiday.

The Nuke Deal

US House of Representatives passed the Indo-US Nuke Deal. "The bill will change existing American laws in order to give India greater access to sensitive US technology." How will this influence our relationship with India's enemies? Our friend's enemies are our enemies.

The Unitary Executive

Did you know that President Bush subscribes to the "Unitary Executive" constitutional theory?

It (Unitary Executive theory) stipulates that under the constitution, the president has supreme control over all executive branches of government and that Congress has very limited power to divest him of that authority.

No wonder he acts like he is the supreme ruler. Congress has definitely shown themselves to be powerless against the President.

American Dream Initiative

Dan Blaz from the Washington Post states:

The former first lady delivered the keynote address at the centrist Democratic Leadership Council's summer meeting, unveiling the results of the "American Dream Initiative," a year-long effort she chaired on behalf of the DLC to produce a domestic platform that Democrats can take to voters this fall.

This agenda is to attract middle-class voters who voted Republican in 2002 and 2004.

The American Dream Initiative includes proposals that DLC President Bruce Reed said would cost $450 billion to $500 billion over 10 years. He said the cost could be offset by eliminating corporate subsidies in the tax code, cutting out 100,000 unnecessary federal contractors and making a more aggressive effort to identify and collect taxes now going uncollected by the Internal Revenue Service.

We really don't need a dream initiative that will increase government spending.  We certainly do not need an initiative that will cut contracts. We do not need uncollected taxes to be collected. We need the Congress and President to stop spending. Period. Looks like the Democratic party has missed the boat.

We believe that a ceasefire is urgent, Rice said before a refueling stop in Shannon, Ireland.

Smart Bombs and Deals with Saudi Arabia
